Re: 1990 Force 150HP
If operating up to expectations, it is ok.
Some parts are hard to find, certainly no bargain prices on parts.
Routine items are easy to fix, but is a rebuild ever easy, no.
If taken care of, and decarbed, and carbs synced, etc, it can be a good engine.
Would I pay more than $500 for it, no.

I got my Force 70hp 1995 when it was 3 years old.
Got a boat-motor-trailer for the price of the boat, cause no one around here would buy the motor.
So it could be a bargain, or it may not last a week.

Before you buy it, YOU should have the compression checked.
Also have YOUR mechanic check the lower unit, the stator output, and the rectifier.

Compression should be well over 100, preferably 120+ , on all cylinders. There should not be more than 10 pounds difference between the highest and lowest reading.

The motor should be test DRIVEN, in the water, under a load, carrying the amount of weight you will carry in the future. That means you will probably need to put 3 friends and a full load of fuel in it to test drive it. Test drive should last atleast 15 minutes.

Test running the motor in a tank, or with water muffs, is not an acceptable or reliable test.

Make sure the power tilt and trim works, if equipped. They are hard to find and expensive to replace.

And when the seller tells you its the same as a Merc or Mariner, don't believe him.
Sure Merc bought Force in 89 or 90, but the motor were nothing like a Merc, until the mid 90s.
