1990 Force 50 hp, no spark

anyone had a problem in the past putting their running 1990 Force 50 hp motor away for the winter (it was winterized) then pulling it out in the summer and having a no spark condition? what did you find?

Did you check your emergency kill switch?

yes, and I have disconnected the kill circut at the engine terminal strip. still no spark, Checked compression at 140 on both, Checked resistance between brown/yellow and brown/blue as well as brown/yellow/black and brown/blue/black and had 790 ohms, at the stator and trigger wires came in at 50 ohms, which seems ok according to the book. how do I test the coil pack and the switch unit. do these switch units go bad easily?

I also am getting a resistance at the kill wire going to the cd unit (leads of meter attaced red to cd unit and black to ground) of around 10 ohms. is that ok? seems like that is wrong and that there is something internally wrong with the kill portion of the cd unit. I would figure I would get nothing on the ohm meter for that wire.

Ok, so just an update, I did get this problem fixed a while ago, but I wanted to let you know what I found.

The CDI ignition box was bad as I expected. Somehow it shorted inside causing the kill circut to always have a negative signal.

To test to see if this is you problem with your Force Motor, First disconnect the kill wire from the terminal strip (leaving all other wires connected, connect the red lead of an ohm meter to the kill wire going to the CDI pack, and the black lead to ground, if the CDI unit is good, you will not get any continuity showing on the display, if you get continuity, then the box has shorted out internally.

How many volts did you read when doing this? I do this and get 1.5 volts while cranking.

any truth to this? I did this test and got a reading from 45.5 through 90.5. When I do a volts test while cranking one of the wires gives me .5 volts the other gives me 1.5 volts. These are kill wires so if they have juice they are bad or dead right??? I am sure you all seen my thread, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=266112 about no spark and buzzer going off. this thing is killing me!

I wasn't reading volts on the kill circut, but rather OHMS. I don't Remember ever taking a reading for volts, but if there is voltage, then there is a problem with either the CD unit or the ignition switch.

Check ohms too. Disconnect the kill wire from the CD unit side and connct it to a lead on your meter. Then take the other lead and touch a ground. If you get a reading, then the unit inside is most likely shorted inside and will not allow it to start..
