Just an update for those that helped me out in the last couple of weeks trying to figure out my no spark problem.
Intalled new Stator, and Power pack from Basic power Industries, CDI Electronics, following a manual,Seloc, and a retired beligerant 3/4 sheets in the wind electrician.....One choke...one turn...succsess!!!! Engine cranked!!! Ready to roll!!!
Checked out good on meter, and ran for a little while on muff, then in the barrel.
Seemed to run alittle warm though and did have circulation.
Its pretty hard to see if you are getting good impellar operation with this motor. No pee hole were you can see the water coming out. From what i understand it comes out of the exhaust? near the propellar???? :D
Have a good spray coming from two relief holes on back of motor. After running about ten minutes the motor seemed to cool off a bit, any suggestions or guidance?
Thanks for the help everybody!!! ....jas....

Hope for nothing more than a sticky thermostat. That can usually be solved with a good soaking in vinegar. But you've spent a bunch on that motor and it would suck big time if your water pump was hurting and you burned up your powerhead as a result. Rebuild the water pump. It can pump a lot, not enough, or not at all. Considering you're getting good spray I doubt it's the problem. But if it's weak, you could end up with another big expense. Water pump parts are cheap compared to ignition parts, and the job on that motor is reasonably easy.

After running a few minutes, you touch the area near the thermostat and it is very hot. Cant keep it there but a second or two. Then it seems to cool of were you can hold your hand on it. Probably sticking a bit. I tested the alarm sytem and it is operational. Just cant understand why this motor does not have a pee hole where you can see water flowing, does not make sense. Like i said i have good spray coming from the two holes, thats the only way i can tell i am getting circulation.
Well i guess all of this is part of the marine life, always fixing something thats broken, or about to break...jas....

I don't know if the newer 50hp had this, but the older (mid 80's) 50 hp had a hose that connected to the base of the thermostat cover. If you have this, you can cut it, put in a "T", and attach a very small (1/8) hose to it. Then run this little hose thru the cowling, creating your own pee indicator.

Re: 1990 Force 50 Hp Update

I found a hose near the rear of the thermostat, and pulled it loose. It had the smell of fuel and i believe it was the overflow for the fuel system.
I sure would like to know where the hose is on this motor, i definetly would make a T to come off of it, make a outlet so i could see the water coming out.Have not located a hose anywere, and i bet its inside the upper and lower unit someplace.
I will keep looking, but if anyone knows were that line is let me know...thanks....

I dont think you motor has one jasper. Look at item 26 thermostat . The hose I believe you are looking for would connect to item 26. I may be wrong but the older models had a clear hose going from the thermostat housing and that is where you want to do the makeshift telltale. Someone like Roscoe would have to look at this to verify my thinking.

Thanks for the reply,euro@roscoe.
There must be a way the water gets to the exaust system to come out. I will look around abit and see if i can find anything. I would feel alot better if i could see water coming out from a pee hole. I found the original owners manual and it reads that a good spray from the two holes on the rear of the engine indicates good water circulation. It also explains that water comes out with the exaust. If no spray is coming out from the two holes at idle then there is a problem.
I will look in the exhaust section and see if there is anything supporting the owners manual.
If you find something let me know, Thanks....jas....
