Re: 1990 force 90 also

I was once the proud owner of a 90 model 90 horse force. HA I hated that **** thing, but I have known people with them that have had very little trouble. My advice, is not to push it. Don't run it again until you have checked the fuel filter, and dropped all of the bowls on the carbs to check for trash. Those carburators are a prehistoric model that look a lot like the one's on a lawnmower. The main jet is directly at the bottom pointing down. If it sucks up trash on one cylinder, it will run like a 25 hp. If you push it, you will lean out one of the cylinders and burn it up, and trust me on this one, I did it twice in my early days. If that is no fix, check timing, then compression, b/c you probably already dropped a cylinder. Good Luck

are cylinders expensive? How would we know if we dropped a cylinder?

take off head gasket to see if detonation has taken place, or you melted down a piston. You may be able to look with a flashlight into the spark plug hole, but this will be limited to what you can see. Hopefully, it isn't that bad yet, I would start with the carbs, then see what's up. A compression check will tell you if a cylinder is bad also, and wouldn't hurt to check timing. On that motor, there are two marks. The single mark is idle, and the three marks to the right of the one is wide open timing. Line the mark on the block with the middle mark. Also, make sure to check timing in gear. If you need more help, write back, and I will walk you through it.

Good Luck
