I got a 1990 Spectrum 17' boat with a Force 90Hp O/B on it from my father. It had sat for a few years in his garage. When I got it, the lower unit had a big crack in it, which I suspected was from some water intrusion that froze. Initially, I couldn't really turn the prop so I pulled the lower unit off. Once I removed the water pump, I can easily turn the prop and the drive shaft turns appropriately. Don't hear or feel any grinding. But when I pull up or push down on the shift rod, it doesn't seem to go into gear at all. The prop shaft still turns very easily. Is that the way it should be? Seems like I should be able to shift it into forward and reverse and it would be harder to turn the prop shaft.
Also, the plastic mounting plate that the drive shaft and shift shaft go through (See pic) (part number 818074A 1)? I can't find one anywhere online. Maybe I can just glue it back together with JB Weld???
Thanks!
Chris
