My 1990 Johnson 120 outboard has started to over charge when running at speed. What can I do to correct this? Goes over 18 volts, switch on the nav lights and it drops but creeps up same if I use the trim.

1st test battery directly with a simple multimeter to rule out a bad volt gauge. if its still overcharging, the rectifier will need further (simple diode) testing. 90% sure it will need a fresh replacement.

The meter is correct according to my multimeter. Looks like I better take it out of the water and go to work. Thanks

1990 is old? Wow.

No need to take boat out of the water....1 hour job or so then joy!

Just fitted this young girl for Mister Estrada!
