Just wondering if someone can tell me the purpose of the vacuum switch. I was needing to know what kind of problems it may cause?

ISn't that part of the VRO ? the pump is vac driven so if its funky I'd replace.
It probably regulates the pump....or triggers the alarm.

The vacuum switch measures the suction of the fuel system. If the fuel system suction raises to a certain point, it sets off an alarm like an overheat. A high vacuum warning would indicate a fuel line restriction. The switch is set at 7 hg +/- 1/2.
