Hey guy need a little help. I have a 1990 Johnson V6, This thing has me confused. This is what it is doing, It will run fine, ( after it sets a day or two) Then it acts like it has a fouled plug. Take it home and not do anything about it. Take it back to the lake does fine all day, the next day runs like crap.

This is what I have done, cleaned all carbs, changed plugs, changed fuel, check to see if it was fireing, ( 2 pugs are kinda oily but I have seen worse) checked fuel pump.

Does it seem to be a compression prob, or a coil prob, or maybe it is some how flooding its self? I don't know lol

I forgot to put this in, it will rev up fine in N, but when I put it in gear it will not gain no rpms, and is bogging down really bad!!!

did you follow the steps in the TOP SECRET FILE, on cleaning carbs? did you use new carb kits? did you check your compression? did you use a spark tester? did you check spark when the motor was messing up?

first, check coils and power pack. First, look for any cracks in coil casings. Fill cracks with silicon seal and try again. Otherwise, go to repair shop for
coil and pack electrical tests. Most problems are electrical.

ok this is what I have done, compression is 100 on all six cyl., I don't have a spark tester so I done it the old fashion way they all are firing, on the carbs they all have new kits in them, but does not mean they are clean now, thinking about taking them apart again to make sure.

I was told today from a mech that it was the fuel pump, but then another told me that it was not the prob (cause once the diaphragm has a hole in it. It would keep doing the prob), but I have no experience with the vo2 fuel pumps. I think that is what it is. lol

My first thoughts that it was a coil prob, they are all fireing now, but is it possible for one to work awhile and then have some kinda short?

I am a engineer, and usely find the problem really fast, but this thing has got me!!!!!!

Thanks for the Help guys

well went outside put it on the hose, thing fired right up, it has just a small spuder when idling, as it was running I started to pull spark plug wires one at a time. The middle str'b wire hit me a little and was jumping, So I know i need a new plug wire on that cylinder.

Sprayed some silicone on all the wire connections and the coils. I am going to take it out this weekend to see what happens. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Next time out take a friend and an inductive timing light. When the engine starts to drop a cylinder, run the engine on plane and put the timing light on each of the 6 plug wires. You should be able to see if any of the wires are misfiring or not firing at all.
