Used resin by it self, 2 coats turned out great.

Let us know how that works out for you, I've never used any but the glasser guys on here say polyester resin is weak by itself and will crack, flake, and peel over time... I dunno how much time, but I guess you'll find out if it's true or not.

I made a plywood trolling motor adapter mount for my old trihull and only used poly resin to seal it, then painted it. It looked GREAT for about a year, then started cracking, peeling and looked like 'ell....

Thanks for the heads up, the transom is not exposed to the outside elements. The transom wood is enclosed in aluminum. So I am not clear how it will degrade over time?

You should post up that question separate as the glass guys probably won't be viewing a tinny thread.

But, poly resin is very weak without glass. As an experiment, mix up an ounce or two and spread it out on some plastic. After curing, drop it on the ground or smash it with a hammer....

Re: 1990 Lund Pro-V Galvantic Transom Pitting

Thanks fishrdan for your prompt reply, I guess I made a poor choice for a good seal material using poly resin as a stand alone product. I will sand off the resin and coat it with something else stronger that will hold up and not crack, peel or flake. My intent was to use the resin as a sealer to eliminate water intrusion, strength was not an attribute considered for this application. I am going to use an epoxy resin for the transom. I did some research on Lund Paint codes and found 1996 PPG Lund Standard codes on web. They will be the closest match versus guessing a match color (DCC Concept AU Series, Graphite Grey DCC35831 and Silver DCC35830).

Hope I can get some input on auto paint, I found out that LUND painted their boats with automobile paint versus marine paint. The supplier www.carpaintonline.com stated "you can't roll and tip the paint only spraying will work." I have read the thread that Woodonglass did on Valspar Tractor & Implement paint and it was an excellent write up. Just do not know if it will work on auto paint? Has anyone rolled auto paint?

Re: 1990 Lund Pro-V Galvantic Transom Pitting

Just an update, ran into some issues with paint for transom. I need to use a spray in either a rattle can or learned how to use a HVLP gun.
I was thinking about going with a 2K aersol rattle can/hardener for base coat and a satin clear top coat for the transom since it is a small area. Research indicates a high gloss will bring out any imperfections missed on top coating. I have very little experience with painting but I will get through it. I thought this would be the first step and in parallel practice using a spray gun for hull. I have updated all panels with new vinyl. Ordered new carpet. Plan on building a new dual battery compartment for 24v trolling motor. The floor is very squeeky with 1/2 inch deck board. Thinking of going with 3/4 inch and making the necessary adjustments for fit. Plan on replacing all floor rivets with stainless self-tapping deck screws. Found fuel tank with an external ground going to hull. Also bare stranded conductors on power lead at bilge pump. These 2 findings may have atributted to the galvanic corrosion found at transom. Plan to install an aluminum anode on transom. Plan to redo all wiring splice connections with silver solder and heat shrink tubing. Installing a ground bus and connecting it directly to the battery. I have spent a great deal of time reading every restoration post in this forum for best ideas for tinnies and glass boats. There is a wealth of information in forum, you just have to find it and adapt it to your project as needed. Will provide more updates and pictures as things get completed. I would like say thanks to everyone for your input on this project.
