Hi,
I currently have a Mariner 15 horse gifted to me by my uncle. Ran it in my test tank (55 gal barrel) and had troubles getting it to stay running. It ran the best after pulling the fuel line and just before it ran out of gas, it would run like a champ. Noticed it was actually dripping gas from carb when running. (Float full of gas and letting too much fuel in?) I do know that carb is varnished so need to pull it and clean it.
That being said, would like to order a carb rebuild kit for it but am having troubles locating the right one for my model.
1990 Mariner 15 hp
Serial No. OC223925 I do have pic of tag on side of bracket. Definitely a "C" and not a "G"
Carb has a wmc on the top and on the side the numbers 1179 and below those numbers 88
Looked on the sites for rebuild kits and everything I see is for carbs is for Mariner serial no OGxxxxxx.
What am I missing? Want to fix this motor and get to fishing!

Thanks!

You should be able to find the kit fits 86 to the 2000s. The 6/8/9.9/15/20/25 motors all use the same kit

At marine engine.com, it gives 4 choices of carbs. each carb rebuild kit is a different price. Hence the confusion. I cant even figure out how to look up carb kits on this site. I put in my search query and got a bunch of clothing options. Will look farther into it but putting in the serial no should give you the kit for that motor............ not 4 different options.
Thanks tho, I am sure once i figure it out I will slap my forehead and shake my head in disgust at how difficult i made it.

Thanks flyingscott and Scott Danforth! I finally did figure out what I needed and have it in my cart here on iboats. Better price for the same kit . Have to put some cash in the debit card account and will get that ordered today. And that Sierra kit is what I have waiting.
Thanks!

So...... rebuilt carb but it is too late to fire it up tonite. Had a little issue with iboats not updating my order info so for 3 days it kept saying it was just processing, no shipping info. Finally called Customer Service and found out that kit was shipped and out for delivery. Was surprised at how fast it got here.
Oh yeah, float was 3/4 full of gas so I am sure I licked the problem. Test tank in the am and out on the water by noon tomorrow for a little fishing and shakedown run of kicker. Just wanted to say thanks again and will post an update tomorrow nite on how the motor worked.

So fired the motor up and it ran until I realized I had forgot to hook up the gas line to the fuel pump. Hooked that up and primed the system and now motor wont start. I am thinking i installed the diaphram in the fuel pump wrong. Will be going back to the book and seeing if i did in fact assemble it in the wrong order. Never a dull moment...........

Pulled the carb back out and reassembled the fuel pump. Sealoc book I had was wrong. Sadly i am no better off. Motor will start when i prime it with the choke knob but dies as soon as it uses up that gas. No sure what is going on now. I replaced all the gaskets and cleaned carb out. The only real part change was the new fuel pump diaphram and gasket and the float. I did not check float for movement so am wondering if perhaps with the old float being saturated (3/4 full) if it bent the hinge that the float rides on. How much of a difference would it make? Would that be causing the float to never come down enough to open the inlet needle?
Or should I be looking in a different direction?

The carburetor was flooding when you first got the motor running-----I would revisit the carburetor work.---Perhaps a better manual is needed here.

Before anything check your carb base gasket they only go on one way. If you put it on upside down or backwards you covered the fuel pump impulse hole. Look up the parts breakdown for your carb. Did you check the ball and spring for the primer?

Hi guys,
So revisited carb work and determined all was done properly. Turns out the issue was the manual was not valid. The pics did not match my carb. But when I pulled the carb back out there is a vacuum line that attaches to bottom of carb. It has two lines that feed into a T and then one hose to bottom of carb. As I pulled out the carb the vacuum line that seems to dive into base plate (?) came quite a ways out. I can see where the one line goes into the side of the crankcase. But have no idea how to check the bottom line out. I am assuming this means pulling the power head but where does that vacuum line attach underneath ?
BTW flyingscott I did check the spring and check ball in the primer case.I think my rebuild kit came with new spring which if it did was installed. and carb gasket does only go on one way. All openings, ect have a hole in the gasket to allow whatever to pass thru. Thanks for that , I did check when i pulled carb to make sure i didnt do anything......noobish.

Put up a pic. I dont remember any vacuum lines going to the carb on them. I remember 2 small lines coming out under the carb from the reed plate. And those lines went to the transfer ports.

Here is what I found on the net. Those two lines in the pic Hook together at the tee and the short line goes to bottom of carb in the back next to the carb mount gasket. Does that help any?

Ok hook everything back up. At the most you should only have to pull the carb to reconnect the hose.

Thanks , I was afraid I pulled that one line out of whatever it was connected to. Would that cause the motor to not run? I dont think the line that goes under the base plate was pulled out that far the first ime I took the carb out. I did not know there was one that went to bottom of carb. just wondered what that line went to and what I need to do to check if it is connected.
