I just recently bought this boat and I need to put a new floor in it. I have started by takeing the old floor out and was it ever a pain in the arse to do. I check the stringers and they are fine but one of the bulkheads had a little rot on top so I put git rot on it. Af far as putting the floor in I am using my own design as the old floor was a little bit of a stupid and space eating design and will be doing so this week and next. About how long does it take poly resin to set up and how will it react with gulf coast Florida temps right now being in the high 60's in daylight and 40-50's at night? Will this hurt the curing? Would covering it with a blue tarp work out? Will there be flamable fumes during the curing process stopping me from using any heat source? As you can now tell this is my first boat and I am kind of clueless but learning quickly with each new project part of this boat.

heat source + poly resin fumes = bad news. kaboom

it will cure, im in largo, fl, trust me, it will cure. a blue tarp may actually hurt, by keeping the sun off of it. i say do it in the a.m. so that it has more sunlight to cure in.

Fiberglass resin kicks off and sets real fast when sunlight hits it. I've worked with resin in the daytime and it was trying to 'jell' as I stirred it. Other times, I've worked with it at night, and I didn't think it was going to set at all. But,,,,, when dawn came the next day-- the stuff I was so worried about the night before kicked off & set in 5 minutes as the sun hit it.

I'm in Tampa and just redid my floor (Replacing Boat Floors)...Same situation. I glassed the floor at night, and it seemed like it wasn't going to kick at all...next morning I took the cover off and as soon as the sun hit the deck it was fully hardened in minutes.

by the way, I don't know where you are getting supplies, but Marine Surplus on old 301 has very good prices on resin and fiberglass supplies.
