1990 Merc 115 How reliable is oil injection?

I just bought it. When I was changing my regulator I had to move the oil tank a bit. I then noticed oil running all over. The lines were brittle and cracked, not just a little, they decintegrated! I replaced them with regular clear fuel line and protected them with wire conduit. Is there a special type of hose used for oil lines that can handle the heat? The stock hoses were sure crap. Should I dump the injection system and premix? This incident sure spooked me.
Thanks.

My 84 150 hoses were crap also. I went with premix.

when the injection works right its great but when it dosent you cook motor. I dont trust them esspecialy after they get old so I just disable and pre mix 50:1 then you know your getting enough oil

Injection systems need mantenance like the rest of the motor. I removed mine after reading all the post here and decided it would be 1 less thing to worry about. Alot of people like them and about as many don't. Do a serch and it will give you alot of pros and cons.

I never had a injector on my 1970 1150, but even if I did I wouldn't trust a 17year old system. Dump it, and premix.
