1990 mercury 25hp

Motor was running fine. Shut it off and it was really hard to start back. Finally got it running and it ran good. Shut it off went to another lake, kinda hard to start again. Ran a good ways and shut it off to fish. 3 hours later tried to start and it wouldn't hit a lick. Pretty sure I'm not getting fire but not sure what all and how to check what needs to be check. Could it be the coil, stator? If so how do you check them?

Check and I'm not getting spark.

Check the kill button on the tiller handle, the wires can get messed up from constant flexing at the hinge area.
