I have a 1990 Mercury 90 HP outboard. The engine runs consistently strong. However, it seems to have a lot of 2-stroke oil that finds it way to the starboard bottom/forward portion of the cowling. I have ran the engine with the cowling off and do not see any oil dripping anywhere. I realize 2-stroke outboards are not as clean as 4-strokes. I have owned a number of 2-strokes and I don't remember seeing this much oil. When I position the engine up for travel a lot of the residual get in my engine well.

Larry,

Check the ties on the oil lines, make sure that are secured with the proper Merc ties, not just walmart ones. One other thing that could cause the mess is if the oil tank is over full...

Chris......

This is what the ties look like....

Tilting your engine forward will spill oil/fuel into your cowling. Unusual amounts of oil after running are due to bad reeds or perhaps bad crank seals. Check the tubing on your bleed system too. If it's running OK It may be doing what it does.

Are we talking quarts or a teaspoon or two of 2 stroke oil?

Teaspoons or tablespoons full. When stored it runs down on to the upper and lower unit. Definitely not quarts.
