Ok guys here?s one for ya,
I just got a 1990 25? pacific power boat with a Chevy 502. I picked it up cheap and realize its and enormous project. So big in fact, the guy I got it from gave up, probably because he took the engine apart not knowing anything about engines.

Any thoughts about the motor itself, I know it?s a total rebuild from scratch. Anyone have experience with this motor, advice as to what to look for.

I love the forum everyone has been a big help whenever I?ve been stuck.

Basic big block. Great engine. Are you doing the rebuilding yourself or sending it out?

Ayuh,... I hope it ain't history repeatin' itself,....

Chevy 502 is a pretty vague discription,...
Is this a 400hp motor, or a 1000hp motor,..??

What drive is it goin' to,..??

Over the years I?ve done a couple of truck engines, so I?m gonna do the rebuild myself. As far as 1000 HP or 400 HP, I?ll know more once I have the serial #?s.

Thanks for the replies, I?ll keep you updated with info and pics

Unless you own a fully equiped automotive machine shop, there is no such thing as rebuilding it "yourself". You WILL need the help of a GOOD machinst to have it stay together! 'nutcase

?nutcase??

Thank you so much for that little pearl of wisdom.

I don?t know where you live or if you have your own machine shop out back, but here there are plenty of qualified machine shops to enlist for that portion of the build. I don?t know of anyone who has rebuilt an engine without the support of their local machine shop.

Maybe I?ll call the shop doing the work on my dodge motor right now hmmm.

-JB ?nutcase?

So you thought he was calling you a nutcase? Ah - I get it! :D

For what it is worth, when I say I am going to rebuild an engine "myself" - I too mean that I will be tearing it down and evaluating it, then taking it to a local machine shop for the boring, etc and then re-assembling it. Good luck with it!
