I finally got the powerhead split on my 1990 50 ESD-JD, pulled out the crankshaft and pistons. Had a ring broke on the lower cylinder and scuffed up the cylinder wall. The cylinder appears to be sleeved. Is that correct? I can't find anything about sleeves on these motors. I'm not sure if the motor has been rebuilt in the past. Thanks

Re: 1990 Yamah cylinders

They are iron sleeves and hopefully may be bored sufficient to remove any grooves or scuffing. Hopefully grooves are not very deep and only a minmum amount of boring required so your pistons can be re-used...otherwise bored oversize and new, oversized pistons and rings required$$$ A machine shop that does outboard motors should be able to provide some guidance and necessary machining. Good Luck!
