1990 Yamaha 90 HP wiring issue

Hey guys,

I'm helping a guy restore a 17 ft Whaler with a 90 hp Yamaha, here's my issue. The original wiring harness from the helm to the outboard was thrown out before I got involved so a new harness was ordered from Yamaha and installed and won't work! The new cable has two square 4 wire plugs and the engine has 6 or so bullet connectors.

Yamaha and my local dealer have not been able to find the adapters plugs to make these work, HELP?

the adapters are in the outbaord accerories manual.
the pre 1995 stuff is different from the 1995 and up stuff.
but the adapters are avalible useually for less than 50 dollars.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately, the dealers here in southern California are telling me the adapters are not available. Is there any chance I can order these from you?

exactly which adapter do you need?
do you need the engine side for the trim and alarms from pre 95 to post 95 ?

Right now the trim and tilt work fine and the engine starts and runs but I have no tach! I can post pictures of the cable ends if it will help!

thats not what I asked
the trim and tilt functions are in the 10 pin main harness.
pics of the engine side,control box,ign switch if not in the box and the tach would help
if you have the old analog tach with lights you may need more.
the trim indicate,overheat visual if applicable and oil warning lamps are in seperate harness's from the 10 pin main harness.

I'm not sure what is missing, when I got the boat I was given a hull and a engine, nothing else! I went to the local Yamaha dealer and ordered, all new cables, controls and guages.

the 10 pin herness from the ign switch to the control box does not contain the wiring for trim indicate or any visual alarm indicates, those are seperate harness's
if you have the late style tach it will have to be correctly set for 12 pole,2 stroke and 3 wire trim sender. you will have to have the correct harness from the engine to the oil warning at the tach and the correct harness from the engine to the tach or trim guage for the trim guage to work.
but I still have no clue as to what you actually have or if its actually in fact yamaha or the correct yamaha stuff.
I aint gonna play 20 questions nor pluck hens teeth.

the cables you are holding are for the trim indicate and warning alarm visual, to adapt them yamaha sells an adapter,I actually looked them up for you but now cant seem to find it.
its in the accessories guide.
will make it plug and play.
if I run acrossed the piece of paper I wrote them down on Ill post them.
on your new tach if its digital make sure the dip switches are set correctly. I still have no clue which guages you have.
the digital tachs come preset to 12 pole,4 stroke and 2 wire trim. you will need 12 pole 3 wire trim and 2 stroke.

the part numbers are here. if not I will look them up again.

your dealer seems to be clueless.
you have to remember I am a bachelor and have lived alone with my cats for about 5 years and organization was never a skill.
cats ate your part numbers.
