1991 200XP Evinrude

I have located a 1991 200hp XP Evinrude engine that has been sitting for a few years without being run. Owner says it is a very good motor. Does the carb cleaner that you mix with the fuel to clean the carbs while the enginge is running work very good? Would the carbs be ok sitting this long? Any info would be very helpful.

Nope!! I know some others will disagree but look at it this way, if your jets are stopped up or resticted that cylinder is getting restricted or NO lubrication. Most additives help keep clean carbs clean..

Would the carbs be ok sitting this long?

I wouldnt take a chance as carb kits are inexpensive and easy to install...

Thanks faztbullet for the input! I wasnt too sure about the additive cleaner and I was definatley gonna rebuild carbs just wanted to make sure engine would start and run before I bought it. So I guess I will just spray some fuel into the carbs to see if it will fire. I dont think he would lie to me he told me I could check it out all I want to. Gonna do a compression check first though!
