1991 5.0 specs?

Anyone have any specifications on a 1991 5.0 with thunderbolt ignition?

It's sitting pretty in a '91 Celebrity 190 I'm picking up on the cheap.
Bore/stroke, horsepower, etc.

It may need to be replaced if I can't get it running, or I could have the block machined and swap in some new internals or a stroker kit or something.

Help is greatly appreciated as I'm new to these motors (but very mechanically inclined)

Anybody?

Google is not giving me any useful information except on new and late-model 305's.

Without a serial number for the engine, HP rating would be a guess.

Bore 3.75/ Stroke 3.48

No sense in dumping a ton of money into a 305 (including a stroker kit) when you could do the same to a 350/ 5.7L for the same costs, and have more to show for your efforts.

HP ratings are a meaningless number. It depends on what spec. is used to measure it, and if it's at the engine or the prop shaft.

All of the necessary engine specs are in the link I posted. For all v8's from 89 to 92.

So it's either a MCM 5.0 or MCM 5.0LX. I know it's an Alpha outdrive.

It's a 19' bowrider. I can't imagine needing a 5.7 honestly, unless I got it for the same price as a 5.0 (should it need replacing)

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... Yer motor is a SBChevy,... 5.0l, 305, the little sister of the 5.7l, 350....

The 305 covers from 'bout 200 hp, to 'bout 230 hp, dependin' on it's induction,...

The 350 covers from 'bout 230 hp on up to 'bout 300 hp, again dependin' on how it's breathin',....

if yer "(but very mechanically inclined) ",.... ya oughta have it Runnin', or know why it don't by now,.... :D

Btw,... 350s can be cheaper to build,....

True. Boat's 'mine' but not in my possession right yet. Should be in my garage in a couple of weeks, and when it is I'll tear into it pretty good. I'll try the ol' chemical charm to get it firing up, and if that doesn't work, I'll conduct some minor surgery. If THAT doesn't work, I'll be hitting CL for a 350 smallblock!

Don't know what you have planned to fix it, or what chemical charm is, but I find a little bit of diagnostic time to figure out what's wrong tends to save some time, money, and aggravation... ;)

We can help you with that.

Thanks. Well, by chemical charm, I mean, I'm going to let some b12 or seafoam soak in the cylinders for a bit, some marvel mystery oil and seafoam sit in the crankcase as well. Once that's all done, I'll drain the oil and the cylinders, then refill with some dino oil and try to crank it over with some cleaned spark plugs. I'll have to see how it sounds. I'll also be leak testing the risers, but my best guess is those puppies will need to be replaced.

If I can get the engine to fire, I'll throw on some new risers and see if I can get it running/idling. Time will certainly tell. Who knows what condition the rotor can cap are in, wires, etc.

Ayuh,.... What are any Known Issues that yer tryin' to Charm out of it,..??

Sounds like an afternoon's gas money yer gonna toss at it,...

I agree, like usual, with the Jetboat guy,...
Checkin', 'n Testin' can be done for cheap, or Free,....

Deal with any Known Issues, otherwise, Give it a Once over, check all the fluids, 'n if Ok,... Light 'er off...

Known issues? I don't know any right yet because I don't have my hands on it. I'll have more first-hand knowledge within the next couple of weeks! Except what the original owner said that he thinks the risers need to be replaced because there was water in a cylinder.

Hopefully he was proactive about removing said water, and drying out the cylinder, especially if said water was of the salty type.
