I have a 1991, 70hp, Johnson. It runs perfect, does not miss, cough, sputter, just runs perfect, but it will not stay idling long enough for my Brother to get out of the boat, go get the truck and back it in the water in order for me to drive the darn thing onto the trailer. Without too much in-depth, information, what should I focus on in order to make this outboard idle better?

Hi,, If you have a tacho the idle speed should be adjusted to between 750 and 850 rpm IN GEAR,, (tiller controlled engines) or 600 to 700 for remote control,, speed is adjusted using the screw just below the flywheel opposite the top carb linkage,, If adjusting while engine is running be VERY carefull not to let screwdriver slip, (safer to stop engine then screw in a little at a time till speed is right),, If you dont have a tacho, just adjust as previous untill boat dosnt stall,, hope this helps
