The engine is a 262 cid V-6 ,Mercarb 2 bbl. alpha stern drive. I am currently using a 19p prop ..my miles per hour match the RPM"S .. so far my top speed is 45mph. would a 21p be a better prop to use????

So your WOT RPM is 4500, right? Sounds just fine as is to me. I wouldn't change prop pitch.

She runs great,de winterized, NEW>plugs, oil, filter etc...I was just wondering if I couldn't get alittle bit more out of her:D. I do believe her WOT rpms is roughly around 4600 . I do know hher rpm's match at around and up to 35-40 mph, anthything above that, the mph 's is faster than the rpm's so I thought maybe if I changed the pitch maybe I could get a little more top out speed :D. any opinion's??

Is your prop Stainless or aluminum? If alum, you'd certainly get some more speed with a SS prop the same pitch. I addeded 4 mph with the switch to SS.

If you go up to a 21p prop, you'll lose rpm and maybe add nothing much to the top end. You're in the "sweet spot" now for rpm, why change? I know, speed!!!!

THANKS , I will definitly look into it ,$$$ To answer your Question , it is stainless ,OK now this is weird , it looks like the 19 was stamped over the 21 , does this mean it's a 21/19p , I looked on the prop and thats what it looks like 19 stamped over the top of the 21 , ever see that before???

Sounds like your running just where it should be. If you go up in pitch your "hole shot" will suffer.

If you want to get more top speed, reduce the RPM's per MPH (better fuel economy), and get better acceleration (hole shot), reduce the bow rise, and eliminate propoising, go up in pitch (thre bladed alluminum from Turning Point is a good choice) and install Smart Tabs. The combination should give you another 4 MPH or more.

Good morning!

I'm just purchased a 1991 Bayliner Capri 2072 with a Merc V6 engine. My question is have you ever seen a throttle cable good bad were it won't sit idled in Neutral or when going from Forward to Reverse it stalls? What should I do replace the the throttle cables all the way back to the engine or do you have any other recommendations?

Thanks!
