The boat is a 28ft sun runner. I'm trying to figure out if it will mount without modification ie raw pump. It's my understanding the impeller is on the drive..am i wrong?

Looks like you have 2 threads on this. Sorry someone didn't jump on this quicker but I don't think anyone knows what a "colab" is.

Like Bruce said, there's no such thing as a "97 King" .....

If it is in fact a 97 model year "Cobra" it will be a 97 Cobra SX
And if it was coupled to a 7.4L engine, it would be from one of the following packages:
744FPLKD 1997
74FGPLKD 1997

If it came out of a 1997 boat it could be one of the above or one of the following:
744EPNCA 1996
744FPNCS 1996
74FFPNCA 1996
74FGPNCS 1996

NONE of the above packages (or drives) are parts compatible with ANY 1990-1993 Cobra Cone clutch (interim) drive (especially one that had a 460 under the hood)

You can look at http://epc.brp.com for part numbers
