OK,

I don't have an VRO2 oil tank installed, When I paid this shady tree Boat Mech to find my problem he cut out the tank and told me that I don't need it. keep in mind the the motor was overheating before and after he pulled the tank. Do you think I should put it bacl in??

When he eliminated the oil injection did he unplug the harness on the pump?

I really hope you put oil in the gas too.

So obviously you are premixing now, right?

It's up to you if you want to put it back. VRO2 are very reliable and 99% of the time it's either cracked oil lines or water in the oil that leads to problems not the VRO itself. So routine maintenance on the system, like everything else, is key. There is some good reading under the FAQ section here about VRO.

Good luck and keep posting

If he didnt unplug the harness the horn should beep on and off to signal a "low oil" situation. Eventually it will go to a solid horn to indicate a "no oil" situation. If the harness is plugged in and the horn is not signaling then we need to find out why before you put the tank back in.

Could this be the horn signal you are hearing?

I don't know, I will unplug the harness and replace the T-stat and the valves and test the motor and you know. I don't expect the parts until next week.

Thanks

OK,

I installed the T-stats and valves and I even replaced the head gaskets and I didn't even out of the marina before the SLOW Warning alarm went off. The harness was unpluged when I check it.

What do I do next?

Umm, do you have an infra red heat gun? I would like to know what temp the heads read when the alarm goes off?

Also, did you use perfect seal on the bottom of the SS plate when you replaced the H2o pump? Does this same thing occur on the muffs as well?

(Just wondering if he’s sucking air at the pump).

Re: 1991 Evinrude 155 com Overheating

I figured out the problem I pulled the powerhead and the last guy that worked on this motor put the wrong head gasket on it. The gasket was blocking one of the outlet holes.

Thank for all your help
