Hi iBoats!,
Have 1991 Evinrude 9.9hp, runs great. However, when removing electric starter, I noticed that the crankshaft has a lot of end-play. Moves visibly, with an audible 'clunk', when push/pulled. A dial indicator measured 0.017" (17 thousandths of an inch). Only a bit over spec, but it feels too loose so I am going to pull the lower crank bearing/seal holder ("crankcase head assembly"
I am guessing I find the lower bearing shot. Any one else familiar with these motors know what's likely to be culprit?
Anyone know how the crank endplay is set on these? I did not see any shims in the parts diagram; does OMC achieve desired endplay just by the dimensions of the standard parts?
Thanks for looking at this!
