1991 evinrude pro 60 hp

its on my bass tracker. runs alittle rough at idle and seems kinda low, anything above 3200 rpm it runs perfect. anything below it will run good then shutter and come back it does it about every 10 seconds or so.. any ideas ?

Pretty much certain a carb soak/cleaning/rebuild is in your future....that mild backfire is due to a restricted slow speed jet, causing a lean carb scenario.

My vote would be that the carb needs cleaning - low-speed circuit may have blockage.

Agreed...... be sure to manually clean the brass high speed jet that is located in the bottom center portion of the float chamber.

could i rebuild the carbs or should it go to the shop ? ive done alot of car carbs but never boats..

It is easy enough with a few tools and a little guidance. An OEM Service manual would really help, and will pay for itself. Check ebay or outboardbook.com for a factory reprint. The following link will help. Let us know if you need any help along the way.

If you can successfully rebuild a automotive carburetor, you can do this wearing a blindfold.

My recommendation, if you are going to clean the carbs, is to go get the 1 gallon carb and parts cleaner kit Gunk product and soak the carbs per the instructions. Not expensive but effective. Fit new carb kits when you rebuild. A little care and cleanliness and all will be well. Always use Stabil fuel additive to help prevent this cleaning problem.

ok thanks guys got a service manual, what about this freeze plug type thing they say you should pop out and air blow and clean then put a new plug in ?

Not a big deal at all, simply drive an awl into it, pop it out. On reinstall, place the new plug in place, and I use a socket extension and hammer to rap the top of it, flattening the concave plug sealing the hole.

Hardest part first time will be remembering where everything goes, lol.

I would take notes/pics, and put bolts back where they belong as you go. Soak it as mentioned, removing all rubber parts, then I run carb cleaner in a can through it, was with warm water, then air dry with a compressor. Make sure all the passages are clean and free of debris/varnish. It sure beats cleaning the house ")
