This motor started about two weeks ago...and times prior to that...Wouldnt start last saturday. I have done the following:

New Battery

New Ignition

New brushings in the starter

I was checking for power to the solenoid and it does have power coming in from the battery but nothing going to the starter. Is it the solenoid that is bad? How do I check this?

If its like my 120 there is also a shifter lever kill switch that is wired through it that may be causing the problem.

Agreed, make sure you kinda move the shifter forward and backwards while turning the key...

One way to eliminate the kill switch as the possible culprit is to make a small jumper and connect it to each of the two terminals on the switch, essentially bypassing the switch. Once you have done this, try to start the motor, if it still does not start then it could be your starter solenoid. If it does start then your kill switch is either bad or in need of adjustment.

I also have the same problem but I was heading accross the lake when my 1987 50hp force completely shut off but I can give it some throttle and it would fire up but would not idol is this the case when that switch goes bad?

This switch should only effect the system when you are starting the motor. It is to prevent you from starting the motor when you are in gear.

Take a pair of jumper cables and connect the possitive lead from the battery and connect it to the hot on the starter see if shell crank and then stay running once you remove it. If it doesnt start I would say maybe something wrong with your switch with the emergency shut off clip... Or even check and make sure the clip is installed.

But I would guess for the gear shift switch due to that had just happened to me when I was connecting new control cables and it wasnt adjusted right  did like you did started looking at the starter and the silinoid and this and that and was about to throw a fit then a light turned on in my head and looked and it wasnt compressed.
