Got to the lake at 6:00am put in boat, won't start, pull it out and pull plugs, damp but not bad, check for spark, none. Temp about 75. Fished all day on the trolling motor. Tried to start about 10:00, no spark. Pulled out at 3:00pm and cleaned fish. While packing up boat decided to try one more time, hit the key and it fired right up, temp near 100.
This has happened before but it will usually start after an hour or two, and after it starts the first time it's good the rest of the day.
I thave cleaned and tightened the battery terminals and the other end of the battery cables, checked that all grounds are tight and clean. I pulled the five wire connector on the power pack and checked the two blk/yellow wires they are grounded when switch is off and open when the switch is on so I assume the switch and kill switch are ok. The red/yellow wire from the starter selonoid to the power pack appears to be fine.
I tried it again this morning and it won't start.Temp 78. Had to run some errands and left the motor with the cowling off and sitting in the sun. When I got back it fired right up. Temp 95. I was going to check the voltage to the power pack on the R/Y wire from the seloniod but the darn thing started.
As you can see I am begining to think this is a tempature related thing. My guess is in the power pack, but I'm no expert.
A second question: If I have to replace the power pack is it worth it to get the CDI power pack which will require that I also change the stator to a 35 amp stator (mine still has the stock stator with the black sleeve)?
Thanks in advance
