Hey guys,

Been working on getting my 1991 Johnson 30 HP (J30ELEIC) going the last couple days. It cranks good but just doesn't want to seem to fire.

I have checked compression, and both checks came out around ~125. There is spark as I use an in-line spark checker. Battery was fully charged. I rebuilt the carb (twice, since I thought it could have been an issue) and my brother recently replaced the intake manifold gaskets as we have been having some troubles for a while.

I noticed that when priming the bulb at the fuel tank, the primer solenoid was leaking a bit at the valve. However, when going to take off the hoses to inspect, I accidentally snapped off the plastic nozzle on the cover. So, I am going to get a repair kit to fix it. When removing the solenoid, I did confirm that it was receiving gasoline.

Do you think the leaky primer solenoid could be the issue? Or is there other things to check? I'm sort of stuck of where to look next.

Any help is much appreciated!

Are you pushing the key in while cranking it over ?----Have you checked the flywheel key ?----A new to you motor ?

Yes, I am pushing the key in while cranking it over. I also saw something about holding it in for a couple seconds before trying, and that didn't work either.

Holding it in without it cranking does very little to help start the motor.--------This thing is an electric valve and it needs fuel pressure to it to work.------It gets the pressure from the fuel pump when the motor is cranking.

Good to know, just something I saw might get it going!

My next step will be to check the flywheel key (after trying to locate a primer solenoid/kit), but any suggestions if that does not work?
