Someone please help, I bought a used pontoon beginning of last season. The motor ran good ( 91 johnson 70hp ). When tried to bring back to life after winter, it will not start. The motor was changed to pre-mix by previous owner. When I pulled plugs they all three were wet and smelled of fuel. I tested for spark and it has no spark on any cylinder. I do not know if this has anything to do with it but when it did run the tach did not work and the volt meter acted funny from time to time. I also did compression test it is at 115 on all three give or take one or two. It was outside so motor temp would be around 50 F. Is this a good number?

Thank for any and all help.

Re: 1991 Johnson 70 no spark

Hey catfish, welcome to iboats!

The first thing I'd check is that the safety lanyard is connected to the kill switch at your control box. This is the red cable that clips onto your belt while you are driving and kills the motor if you fall over.

For the tach, make sure that it's plugged in also. The cable runs from the control box right below the key to the tach.

Cheers

I think my problem lies in my lanyard switch. All the wires look good on tach not sure about that. Thanks for all the help
