Hello,

I have a 1991 Johnson 120 VRO that is new to me. It runs great except at low revs, when it stalls almost every time I put it in gear.

I replaced the plugs (Champion L77JC4) and poured 16 ounces of Sea Foam into the 26 Gallon tank, half of which I used yesterday. The problem is still there.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Try advancing the idle timing just a hair.

The problem seems to be improving with more use. Should I just wait and see if it completely goes away or try dinking with the timing. (I am a novice boat owner)

Thanks,

before messing with the timing to raise the idle,
make shure the carbs are clean.
then mess with the idle timing.

should be about 8*

you say the problem is improving, so it may just be old or contaminated fuel. Run the whole tank and try a brand name gas station with the next fill up. you may even try installing a fuel/ water seperator filter and check it after every trip. If you see a lot of deposits/water, could have been a bunch of crud in the tank. As other folks said already, clean the carbs.
