Last year halfway through boating season the bottom half of my transom board started rotting. But it was still usable for the rest of the year. So i bought some grey spray paint and painted it when low tide came around. [I dock my boat at my neighbors house. The dock is in a salt marsh so at low tide it sits on the mud].
I was going to work on it over the winter but with the temp being really low and having a snow bank over 5 foot tall in my driveway with 2 boats in it their was no way I could work in that.
so when the end of march rolled around i started working on both boats. but this thread is only about my Sea Nymph.

Re: 1991 Sea Nymph 14K rebuild

my first task on the boat was making a new transom. The original one was a trapezoid piece of 1 1/2 inch plywood painted grey not even sealed, that was original to the boat. But it lasted almost 23 years like that so i cant complain. i bought a sheet of 2 FT X 2 FT 3/4 inch plywood from the hardware store. cut that into two equally sized pieces for the transom. [PIC] glued them together using Gorilla Glue clamped together overnight. When it was completely dry I sanded them down and put 3 coats of Epoxy on and let it dry. Then I clamped them to the transom and marked the mounting holes for the bolts on the board. I drilled the holes with my drill press and put another coat of epoxy on. I wet sanded the whole thing with 500 grit sandpaper. cleaned it and spray painted it Charcoal Grey with Rustoleum 2 times. the wet sanded it with 1000 grit and put a coat of grey on. then clear coated it 2 times. let it dry for 2 days before i bolted it on with all stainless steel hardware.

My second task was making a Bow/Casting Platform. I bought a 3/4 inch sheet of 4 FT X 8 FT OSB. I know its not marine grade or plywood but i made sure to properly seal it and support it.
I cut the bow section out using a combination of a Jig Saw and Circular Saw. it was tough to get it to fit just right into place. Once it was cut to size i cut out a opening for the hatch. the opening was 3/4 smaller on all side then the hatch to have it sit on top. I used 3/4 plywood that was 2 ft X 2 ft. I epoxied the edges and around the hatch. I primed the whole board and put two coats of Rustoleum topside paint on. yeah its green cause i had a new can of paint that I was going to use on my rowboat until it sank then retrieved only to be brought to the dump. i found it sunken after Hurricane Irene in my backyard. No registration # or HIN #. it had a bad transom and a hole in the bottom. i fixed that used it for a year and a half for catching snapper blues in the marsh. i decided to put my old fish finder on it cause i upgraded to a new one on my Jon boat. i drilled the holes to big and siliconed the screws in . two weeks later the transducer popped off and it started filling up with water:help:. I hurried back to the dock with my friend and took all of the gear and motor off and was going to take it out the next day. came back to find it sank and had a bigger hole in it:sad:.
:focus:I bought some marine grade carpet that was grey and installed that using my pneumatic T50 Staple gun from harbor freight [best thing to use for upholstery and carpeting]. It looks great. I used all stainless steel hardware.
