Re: 1991 Sea Ray 250 Sundancer - Need opinions
I just bought an '88 Sea Ray Seville 20' BR. 330 hours on the engine. It was a fresh water trailer queen, so everything always had a good chance to dry out. I haven't found any rot or wet foam anywhere. Engine starts easily, runs strong, oil pressure 55-65 psi at speed. Didn't find any water in any of the oil, grease fittings all had grease in them. Bellows all look like they were replaced last year. Shifts well into both forward and reverse. Hull had a couple of scratches, but nothing structural. If think it's a really well built boat. I'm very happy. I'm already thinking of something a little bigger, and the Sundancer is high on my list. Get a sea trial if you can, and take the time to read up on some of the renovation threads here to get a feel for how problems show up. Check for soft spots in the floors, tap the transom all over for "tap", not "thud". Do the same on the exposed stringers and inside of the transom. Check outdrive oil for signs of water, engine oil ditto. Look for signs of major repairs- areas of the hull where the gelcoat color doesn't quite match. (isn't an automatic dealbreaker, just tells you to see how well the repairs were done). I think the 7.4/Bravo combination should be great in that boat. Should handle the weight and size very well. Maybe some of the people with more experience in this exact boat will chime in.
Also go over to "Club Sea Ray", lots of threads on the Sundancers, they seem to be a very popular boat.
