Re: 1991 SPECTRUM BLUEFIN 1900

I have a 1990 Spectrum 19' and have been very happy with the boat. It is easy to tow and rides well even in rough water. Mine had a 90HP Force on it when I bought it which I was not happy with at all. As far as I have been able to tell the Spectrum and Blue Fin were made by Bayliner. Since most boat manufacturers get their components from outside vendors I have not found any problem with them being out of production.

BlueFin was bought by Brunswick, Spectrum was the new name.

The older the better.
Brunswick changed the design in about 92 or 94 when they went to the welded hull. Newer design does not ride as well or handle as well.

Re: 1991 SPECTRUM BLUEFIN 1900

The 90HP Force was bad when I bought it so I got a really good price on the boat. I had the motor rebuilt by a reputable shop and ran it for 1 summer and it blew again. I couldn't afford another motor like a Merc or Johnson so I was able to locate a 1986 Force 125HP with a bad lower end. A local Marina put the 125 upper on my existing lower and it has been running great. I learned most of what I know about the Force engines from this forum and it seems the 3 cylinders are more trouble than the 4 cyl like I have now. My boat is rated for 125HP max but if your's is rated for the 140 Suzuki I would go for it. I am in a quandry because I really like everything about the boat but am still very leery of the Force motors. The 125 will do about 40MPH at WOT with a 17 pitch prop and medium gear.

Re: 1991 SPECTRUM BLUEFIN 1900

The Spectrum line was dropped, in '99 I think.

It was almost identical to the Fisher FM series of boats, maybe made a bit cheaper.

Here are some pictures of my 1995 16'8" Spectrum Avenger.
Notice the gradual angle of entry the bow has, bangs pretty bad in the rough stuff.
The older ones had a much steeper angle of entry, and cut the waves better, more like a Lund or Alumacraft.

It is hard to believe that it is a 1995 model, it looks brand new.My 1990 has a steep angle but I don't think quite as drastic as your's.

When I buy a boat it has to have some scrapes and dings already on it because I'm very anal about new stuff and where we go in the Adirondacks we track sand, pine needles aand other stuff all over the boat as well as a few rock scrapes. If I had a boat like yours I probably wouldn't use it for fear of messing it up!

Here are the pictures of Marker's boat.
It look huge inside compared to mine.
Mine tops out at 32-33 mph with the 70hp.
Bet yours would fly with a 140hp.

Re: 1991 SPECTRUM BLUEFIN 1900

Thanks for posting these pictures ,maybe some of the other members will post pictures of their spectrum boats ,maybe a good idea for a new thread. That's a 65 hp suzuki, its for sale on ebay,im not making much speed with it (24mph),so im looking everywhere for a suzuki 90-140hp.I like the color scheme on your rig,my boat is too dark. Thanks again roscoe merman354@yahoo.com

Markers boat looks very similar to mine except across the transom mine is level with the gunnels and then a step down area where the motor mounts. The transom on Markers would be more useable especially with a kicker motor.

Re: 1991 SPECTRUM BLUEFIN 1900

Well, I had a 1992 Spectrum 1750 w/ a 3.0 Mercruiser. I bought it new for cheap and sold it for about 75% of its original price. The motor was, IMHO, not strong enough for the boat. But it was pretty miserly to run - about 3 Cdn gal/hour. The other upside to the boat was its interior room. It was slab sided and the bow curved in ahead of the steering station, so the beam carried full width for most of the hull's length. The worst thing about it was the sprung rivets and constant leaks.
Cheers,
pjr

Re: 1991 SPECTRUM BLUEFIN 1900

It's good to see another spectrum owner out there. I've struggled to find photo's of other spectrum boats. I've done alot of work to mine, changing out 3 motors and replacing the floor, rebuilding the winshield, other tinker projects. I'm ordering carpet today and I was looking thru post to see what others are doing. Do you still own it?
