I have a 1991 Tracker Magna 17 boat with a 60hp motor with the VRO system, I am considering disabling the VRO and doing my own pre-mix. I’m trying to find out what size fuel tank I have, just wondering if anyone can help me out please.

The only reliable number would be to examine the plate on the tank, or drain it and fill it.

After the initial fill, all additional fuel added will get 2.6 ounces of oil per gallon of gas.

Why disable the VRO system? It's not as bad as people say. If your outboard is 91 as well then you will have the better VRO pump with Viton seals and an alarm that will sound if she quits pumping oil.

Do a search, , I think in this forum. One of the members here gave an excellent explanation of how the pump works, what it's faults were and improvements they made. The upgraded pump with alarm was introduced I believe in 1985 or 1986.

How do I know if my alarm works or if it has an alarm? I just got this boat last fall and only used it twice, but what little I understand is the alarm should beep when you first turn the switch on, if that’s so mine does not beep turning ignition switch to on & I see nothing under the dash that looks like an alarm. Yes if I knew an alarm would sound if the VRO system isn’t working then I would keep it hooked up. My motor is a 1992. The other problem is I’m 4 hrs away from any kind of boat shop to check it out.

I would like to know a simple way to see if I have an alarm and if so how to test it!

Take the cowling off you motor and look for one or more tan colored wires going to sensor(s) on the block. They trigger the overheat alarm. Turn the key to on and ground one out. The beeper should go off is it is working.

Thank you for your input, I will definitely give that a try if the weather ever warms up!

Not a fan of older VRO equipped engines either. The pump is expensive to replace/work on, and at 20 years old plus, way past due. The vacuum line going to it is likely starting to crack/rot, and the tank filter is likely restricted. At the very least, those 2 items should be replaced.

Not a fan of Tracker's permanent tanks either. The top is likely sagging, and the sending unit for the gauge is generally mounted in the center of that. This means if any water drips onto the top of that tank, it's going to run right to the sending unit, and very likely into the tank.

Suggest that installation of conventional 6 gallon tanks can eliminate that issue.
