I was wondering if anyone either had a wiring diagram for this boat or knew where to get a manual for one. I got my new power head on today. Went to start it and it cranked normal (turned over fast), but didn't start right away. (Not suprised since it's a brand new motor). Turned the key off and went to start it again and nothing. No gauges, no VRO/alarm beep, nothing. The only thing that works is the aerator for the live well (works without the key on) I checked the batteries and those connections, checked all of the fuses I could find. I also checked for power at the switch and didn't find any. I suspect this is the problem, but I can't follow that wire because they run under the deck against the starboard side. Trying to find what is going on, but I don't know exactly what is suposed to have power and what is not. I just probed all of the wires on the back of the switch and none of them had 12 volts on them. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

what motor do you have. most have a fuse near the starter solenoid the feeds the ignition switch. should be a 20 amp fuse. boat things, aerator, lights, radio, should all be power off battery, not the ignition switch. the only thing on the ignition switch should be items related to the motor.

I will check out the fuse tomorrow. As far as the rest of the items....The fuel gauge, the alarm, the bilge pump, (didn't try the running lights), and the starter all fail to function. The only thing I found so far that works, works regardless of whether the key is in the on position or not. All of the other items needed to be in run (or start) to function. Oh yeah, and I have a 91 Evinrude 40hp on the boat.

Well, couldn't wait. I went out with a flashlight and I don't see any fuses in the wires in the motor. I really think it is boat wiring or MAYBE a bad ignition switch. I would think if it was a motor problem that the fuel gauge would still work.

If the main fuse at the engine is blown, there is no power forward.

Woo-hoo, thanks guys! After further inspection (and finding out if the motor fuse was blwon I would have no power forward) I found a 20A fuse in the "junction box" on the motor was blown. Now, my next question....What caused it to blow? I will be replacing it shortly and we'll see if it blows again. Hopefully not. Thanks again!

Well, It's official....Something is going on with the wiring. I assume the new powerhead since I didn't have problems until I changed it out. What is likely to pop that main fuse for the engine?

It's gone through a few fuses now....So time to start looking for the real problem.

Oh yeah, on a side note. I'm still out there working on it and can't find what size fuse is supposed to go in there. Anyone know? It's a 1991 40hp Evinrude. Model # TE40ELEIA. It had a 20, but seems to work ok with a 30A. (I know, but I ran out of 20A ones and I am keeping a close eye on it until I figure it out.)

suppose to be 20amp, if you use 30 watch for smoke.
