I would like to turn the motor over with a wrench to insure that the motor isn't seized like you said. What do you mean by pulling the outdrive? Is that a fairly simple or more to it task?

Ayuh,... If it's an Alpha, everything but the propshaft is turning with the motor...
With a Bravo, 'bout 1/2 of it is turning with the motor...

A $6. to $10. dollar gasket set, 'n 'bout 6 or 8 nuts...

I have an Alpha one. Could you give a little more detail on it? I see the 6 or 8 nuts you are talking about. Remove those and that will allow me to remove the assembly? I can remove and see if I can rotate the engine shaft and get the gaskets during the week. If it's easy I will do it. Thanks again?

Ayuh,... with the drive trimmed down,...
Move the controller to Forward...
Remove the aft ends of the trim rams...
Remove the 6 nuts, 'n Pull...
At that point, you've got 80lbs. of outdrive in yer hands...

Personally, I adjust the trailerjack, so's I can just rock the drive back outa place on it's skeg...
Then I can git a Handle on it, 'n carry it wherever it's goin'...

Nope, the lube is Supposed to be inside the unit yer removing.....
If there's oil in the bellows,..
You've also got Other problems...

How do you put a wrench on the engine to turn it? Is this done at the motor or outside the boat with the shaft. The shaft is still connected to the outdrive. thanks again!

I still would like to know th best way to turn the engine. I removed the outdrive but the shaft is attached to the outdrive. It doesn't look like it comes apart easily. The pulley at the engine has a small nut that I didn't want to put too much torque on. Any advice is appreciated. At work today but will be working on it soon.

Ayuh,... That bolt will easily take 50ft.lbs. torque, 'n the motor should be turnin' over before that is reached...
Otherwise, you can tighten the belts, 'n put a wrench on the alternator to turn it...

This is with the sparkplugs Out of course...

Well I talked to the boat repair shop. They don't think the problem is water in the engine due to the fact it was running with a garden hose but didn't rule it out completely. Currently charging the batteries and going to clean terminals and tighten connections. Also said it could be the neutral switch. 1 more checkout and off to the boat repair shop. Got to be ready for the SeaRay national launch party in the middle of the month. Already have a berth spot at a marina in the heart of the delta in Nor Cal. I'm dying to get this thing out. Thanks for all the help and I will let you know what the problem is. Thanks to Dubs!!

This is actually an easy troubleshoot. You can quickly diagnose a ignition, neutral, solenoid or starter problem within 30 minutes. Follow the instructions in this link http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=167035. This quickly gets you through the components in series to your starter. If you turn the key and hear a click head to the engine. Follow the link instructions and see if 12 vdc is getting to the starter. If you have 12 vdc to the starter pull the spark plugs. I wasn't aware of the possibility of water being sucked up into the engine, so this is a good check to eliminate that possibility. If the engine doesn't turn with the plugs pulled, it's a good chance the starter is bad. Pull the wires off the starter. There is a 15 mm nut to remove. Jump the starter directly, if it doesn't turn it's the starter. My starter was the issue.

You need to check your Solenoid next to your 50 amp breaker. It is under that little black cover.
If that is clicking you are getting power from your starter.
There are 4 pole termanals on it, get a flat blade screew driver with the key in run position cross the two top (Large Poles) with the blade of the screwdriver.
It will spark and should turn over, and it will start like this, if it does then you need a new solenoid. $ 25.00 at the most. If not then you have bad starter or other Elect isues.

Ayuh,... That solenoid carries power from the key switch, to the exciter on the starter solenoid...
