You'll have to unplug it to insert the voltmeter probes in the connector.

Ok guys here goes I was able to do all of e checks on the cdi electronics site. Thanks for the tip by the way, very informative.disconnected black yellow kill wire, still no spark. Disconnected rectifier leads, still no spark. Brown to black yellow was 700 ohms. DVA output from stator showed good voltage. Orange to orange black reading was a tad higher than 12 volts, but I am not using a good meter. All of the other ohm and voltage checks passed spec. Does this point to power pack. Thanks for being patient with me, very frustrating tracking this down.

Sorry other tests were blue to white. Purple to white. Green to white. Blue to orange black. Purple to orange. Green to orange green. All were within the ohm and voltage specs

i had one last year about this time with no spark. I checked at the pp for high voltage it was there so that kinda told me my stator was ok. i replaced the timer base with a used one and this solved my problem. Over time i have bought up some extra parts just for this type thing so that is why i had the extra timer base. it was bought for cheap used but it worked. i also keep an extra stator, and coils in my shop all bought off ebay or craiglist for cheap. I just like having parts to swap if i do have a problem.

no spark sure is a pain inthe butt isnt it? my timer reading seem to be ok along with stator. In my mind I have isolated it to pp or ignition coils. Would all 3 of these go bad at the same time? anyway to test the coils?

Ok guys this gets more weird every minute. Pulled black yellow wire again just to recheck, fired right up. Only thing is I can not shut the engine off without choking it now. Is this ignition switch?

Black/yellow wire is kill circuit. With it disconnected, the ignition switch "OFF has no effect.

When Joe Reeves and boobie post in a thread, I pay attention so maybe I can learn something new. I am surprised there has been no mention of the "starting safety switch" located in the remote control unit being a possible cause of the total loss of spark. My bud's 1990 Evinrude 60HP 3-cylinder motor acted just like you have described. Once I adjusted the throttle linkage cable to the initial setting, the spark returned. Just trying to help based on my very limited experience. Good luck!

583748 should be he correct power pack. That specific part number is still a good part number-it does not supercede to 584808. I have a slightly used 92 60 hp 3 cyl on my pontoon. After a year of great service, it would not start one day. No fire at all. Cranking voltage output tests showed that the timer base was bad-so replaced it. It's run fine since.

Willy, the " starting safety switch " has nothing to do with the ignition system. It's part of the starter mtr circuit only so you can't start it in gear. It could have been a fluke to what happened to you.

Thanks for the explanation. Now you know why I hate electrical problems!

Hell Willy, the electrical probs were almost the most fun to fix. It always offered a challange. Sure beat turning nuts and bolts just to repair a power head or gear case.

Different strokes for different folks! I find the mechanical stuff very satisfying and even therapeutic, but I am an amateur.

thanks for all the help guys. i have not been able to get back at it but will this weekend. i am going to replace key switch a nd also go through all of the black yellow wiring. does anyone know the best place to get replacement pin and socket connectors? mine broke when i removed black/yellow wire from power pack. also, does it hurt the motor by having to choke it to get it to stop. thinking about going to an idle only lake this weekend but i dont want to do any damage to the motor by choking it to kill it
