Hi Guys. Hope you can help. I messed up and know it. While replacing water pump I let the little shift shat receiver(reverse gear lock, I think) fall off. I hadn't even had time to mark. Is there any way to be sure I get it lined on the correct spline? I guessed at it, but of coarse it didn't shift correctly.

Hi Guys maybe below will help you to understand my dilemma. I need your expertise. I bought a 1992 60 hp Mariner Ser#D163246 60 ELPTO. No cables or control box. Had to put in a water pump. I let the shift linkage get out. On the lower unit the shift shaft should be in what position? It is easy to find neutral. Is forward next turning clockwise? Or would that be reverse? No cables are hooked to engine so I will have to slide shift either all the way forward, center it or all the way to the back of the engine. Please help me to get this set up.
