I just purchased an Astro 18fsx , it has been out in the weather for a year and is in need of some repair work. I believe the transom is good, no cracks in fiberglass, and has no unusual movement when motor is raised and lowered. But.....................the deck is rotted, I pulled the carpet and found where the previous owner had poorly repaired a soft spot, the deck is soft where the seats mount, and the bulkhead between ski locker and battery compartment is rotten, also one small spot on floor of ski locker where fiberglass has worn off for some reason. My problem is being new to fish and ski ownership I am not too familiar with the terminology, my boat has a deck that is raised from the hull about 1-2 inches, on top of that are some fiberglass encased plywood stringers , and on top of that is the deck that the seats are mounted to. I think these stringers are not the "stringers" that are referenced in other posts here i.e. the ones that provide hull integrity, but are just for providing support for the "upper" deck, if anyone can tell me if this is correct I would really appreciate it, the reason I ask this is because I do not have the facilities to seperate the hull and replace the floor the right way right now, but would love to get this boat on the water this summer if it is structurally sound. I will have a shop this winter and plan on doing a complete floor replacement then. If anyone has any assistance they can provide on doing a floor repair without splitting hull I would really appreciate the input. Thanks for reading my post and God Bless.
