1992 Carver Montego SR8 - shift lever problem

The Throttle Shift Lever is when changing gear very tight - it does not shift smoothly - feels like it needs to be greased or lubricated.
It is a side mounted lever - like an Outboard - I am looking for information on how to access the shift cables - didnt see any info in the Owners Manual

You might U/L a picture of the control. Sometimes the throttle handle has to come off. Others the throttle only button. However, it is hard to tell w/o photo.
