I just bought the boat less than a year ago and I pay close attn to details. I "think" my voltage gage was ALWAYS at 13 or a tad over at all conditions for the first 6 trips out or so.

Now lately, the voltage changes from 12v or a tad under at idle with lights on to 15v at WOT with no lights on. At WOT, if I turn on my nav lights, it does drop back down to 13.

Is this normal? or did I have a voltage regulator go out?

I dont beleive your motor has a voltage regulator. It does have a rectifier. I would get a good manual for your motor and do a rectifier test then do a stator test. Im not sure about the specs for your engine but my concern is that the voltage drops below 12v and raises above 14.5 volts.

Yes, I will test per OEM manual. I will let you know whats up. Just was hoping somebody knew it the volts were supposed to run consistant, or vary with rpm and elec usage....?

Thans again!

It varies with rpm, electrical useage, battery condition and state of charge, etc. 13 to 15 or even 16 is normal.

Your rectifier is working or it wouldn't go above resting battery voltage at any time.

Relax.

Cool !!!!! Thanks so much for the info!! Thats good news.

Its just I went to Lake Cumberland and was shore camping for 6 days, so the issue isnt good when I was 15 miles from ramp and had the fear of something wrong.

Thanks for easing my mind!! - Joe
