thanks for the reply...just to add info I pulled all 3 plugs they are black and wet, smell like fuel.....again im new to outboars...but working on inboards a black wet plug is carb/ choke issues. I have not checked that yet....tomorrow I will check for water in the fuel first then make sure choke is operating correctly....then try to figure out how to determin fuel pump issues.
thanks again,
Denny

Could be to rich. Id start by opening each adj screw 4 turns and pump bulp to move anything in way of needle. Then lightly turn them in follow the manual maybe 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated position. 360 degree's watch screw then another half. Put some new autolites in, decent semi syn oil 50to1. Mine works way better now. Sounds like wet foul

Sounds like a similar problem I had on a 88 85hp.... Finally gave in and brought it to the shop, and I had crappy gas with water, and real dirty carbs..

I replaced all the lines and fuel pump myself.

Keep us updated

Re: 1992 force 85 hp dies when given throttle

Thanks for all the replys..It was hard to make the engine repeate the above issues on muffs so I took it down to the local boat ramps.. I used seafoam deep creep and followed the directions (amazing stuff)...After the smoke cleared I took it for a run I got up on plane but all the power was not there and got a sputter or 2. I started adjusting the adjustment screw per the shop manual...engine still not 100% but 100% better than before. I pulled the carb Im going to try to clean the carb first then look into rebuilding or replaceing....mostlikely rebuilding. BTW I did pull the fuel tank dump out the contents and checked it, I found nothing too concerning and filled the tank w/ fresh fuel before I went to the dock...Iam going to blame my issues on the carb right now and lets see how it goes, I will also do a tune-up while im at it hopefully I will be able to give it a test run by wednesday. I will let you know what happened.
Thanks for all the help,
Denny

WOW....I just got off the phone with with a guy i know who has a houseboat docked at the local marina and it so happened he was talking with the owner/mechanic when I called....I was told to bring my boat down by 10am and he will put a used rebuilt carb on for $85 including labor and take my old carb as a core and I will be on the water way before 11:00...Heck a rebuild kit cost $50+/ a new carb cost $200, I think Ill give this a shot....running out now to put new plugs in etc...Ill let you know how it goes. The way it looks I could not do this cheaper myself....I guess I got lucky and made a phone call at the right time. The way my luck runs this sounds to good to be true, but what the heck im only 10 minues from the marina..

He replaced the carb took it out engine runs 100%. He needed some work on a a/c unit in his office i took care of it and walked out not having to pay a dime, even swap...it was the deal of the summer.

Were they all black and wet? You might need to check for misadjusted floats or a hole in a float causing excess fuel to enter the engine.

As stated in above post a rebuilt carb was put on and all the symptoms I have are gone...Boat runs fine at this time....I will be checking the plugs again after a few more hours of run time.
