Hi all,

I'm new to boating and have been hearing conflicting stories. I'm looking at a 92 bayliner with a 120 hp force l-drive. A few people have told me to stay away because parts are scarce, some not available at all. Please provide opinions/details. Thanks!

I agree with what you have been told, Nick. Not only because Force parts are getting rare, but because B'liners are not great boats.

They are usually cheap, but so are used Yugos.

Good luck. :)

For me, that boat has three strikes against it.

1. Bayliner.

2. Force.

3. L-Drive. (wait till you try to get parts for that!)

But it is a cool setup. The only parts that you are going to have a hard time to find are the steering stuff, seals etc. Motor millions of them and lower unit is a standard mercury. I like the l-drive because it is light, simple, takes up little space and it looks neat. No big outboard motor hanging and taking up platform space.

I had an L drive and liked it.

Yes the parts are getting rare...however the mechanic I had said that many outboard parts can be used for it. Properly maintain it and it will last......
