I found this beautiful 1992 FW 195 sundowner at a dealer today - been in storage about 7 years, and almost looks like new - dealer took on trade for a motorcycle, since the guy just hadn't used the boat...

Asking price $15,000 obo - estimated hours by dealer about 80 - if even. I had a look at the engine, darn if this thing didn't look like brand new. the hill shines except for like 2 places that a bit of rubbing compound would bring right out...

My only concern, brings me back to one of my last posts a month ago about the omc stern drives. you guys had told me that the 1995 FW 170 I was looking at, had a GM block in it. This one has an OMC branded engine, and outdrive. Is this still a GM engine, or is it truly an OMC? Is this a pain to service? Parts readily available and generally a good engine? I swore to always stay with emrc after my last experience with omc (1987 chriscraft cavalier) so I'm just being cautious

It haunts me to think I've wasted 2 months of the season already.... the used boat selection here is just terrible - and I really can't decide if I should wait until October and try and snag a 2004 model left over they need to clear out.

Anybody have one of these, or personal experience with one?

Should still be a gm engine, 5l or 4.3 ? The omc stuff should just be the manifolds, carb etc. The sundowner is a nice boat!!!, but 15000$ is too much for a boat that age, even in Ontario.Have you thought about buying in Michigan, and importing? Thats what I did and got alot more boat for what I was willing to spend..Good luck!!

Jim

It is going to be the same Cobra drive you had on the 1987 boat. You can get parts, but can you get good service where you are? I agree that is way too much to pay for a boat that age. If you had to importing from Michigan would be a better deal. Down here you can buy boats like that for no more that 6000 US but they have been used in salt water.

I used to own the same boat about five years ago. But, in Florida, I bought it used at the time from a Four Winns dealer for less than $13K. NADA's average retail today is $6390 before options. The 195 Sundowner definately is a great hull, though. I put trim tabs on it and loved it.

I read on another post that this boat should only be used in Freshwater. Is that true ?
