I bought a 1992 Johnson 175 WHR series motor. I never heard of the WHR Model. What is known about it? Heres the story. The guy was running down the lake at 60 mph and it just quits. couldn't get it started. Then he sold it to me. I got it home and with further investigation I jound a hair line crack going up the drivers side block starting from the bottom of middle cylinder up the crank case housing to the fly wheel housing. I decided to start the motor to see how it sounded. It started ran rough but did not knock. The spark plugs show no metal. I temporarily seal the crack and now she ran perfect for about 10 miniutes and turned off as if someone turned off the key. It would not start again until the next morning ran fine for about 15 minuted and shut down again. I has a beep beep beep noise. I play with oil reseavor pumping it opening up lid and it quits. I could weld the crack if the other symptons are not devestating. 1)What caused the crack?
2)What causes it to turn off?
3)What is the sparatic beeping?
4)Is this just a parts motor?
5)Is the WHR something special?
I replaced it already with a 1997 Johnson Fast strike.
6)Is the fast stike a special motor since it takes a different set of spark plugs?

Sorry for all the details but I have alot of questions.

Is it a WRH model? If so that's the World Record Holder model. Nothing special, just some styling on the hood and lower pans that refer to the world recod Allan Stinson set. Most were sold on Javelin bass boats if I remember right.

Once you get it apart you'll see what caused the crack. The horn beeps to signify an overheat, low oil in the oil tank, no oil in the tank or a fuel restriction.
