1992 johnson 225 steering arm rotted help

hi can anyone tell me how hard it is to change a steering arm on this motor . i have twins on this boat . the other problem is the steering it is tight this motor has a power steering pump on it .. Are these motors good. they start like champs . i am getting ready to change the water pumps on them so please advise what i should know thank u guys . this is my first boat ,i can fix cars i have a little machanic back ground.:confused:

get a OEM manual with twins you are going to need it. outboardbooks.com.

that is a BIG job.powerhead needs to be removed,the lower motor mounts disconnected(change em for ease)there are nuts under the ph at the back of those bolts going thru the arm,the bolts also go thru the upper motor mounts,if you caan get the season out of the motor,its a good winter project.You might find it ALOT easier getting a good clean mid section with good arm at a salvage yard,preferably freshwater used,swap your gearcase and p/h if they are in that great a shape.If you use in salt water.You better have a torch for stuck bolts
