Re: 1992 Johnson 60 TLENE Stalling, Missing and General setup problems.

Please have patience -no service manual till I know worth saving -- Crank seems to turn smoothly Service guy says looks like overheating although he never saw bores before I oiled them up He thinks minimum of 2 pistons needed . To split the crankcase assembly the timer base seems to have to stay in place as it has hidden retainer ? Do you drive the tapered pin out & then split with some leverage working around the split to keep from warping or ? Low hours so would I replace the reed valves - probably ok - they seat well ? Will post pictures once I have her opened Thanks in advance

Put the sledge hammer down!!! Hahaha

I have a manual! Fire over your email and I will try to send it to you! It's quite a big file so I may have issues but if I can break it down into separate chunks it may well send!

You really need to have a manual!!

Long time since update : Engine pulled stripped rebored & piston .030 oversize in place NB there are 2 different bores for 1992 60 hp! Had an additional cooling telltale drilled & threaded to the top of the block to eliminate air blockage- bubble cooling problems Ready to re assemble case halves. New water pump parts to be instlled also & get rid of VRO oil pump! We will not see open water till mid May so lots of time to finish up

What do you mean by " 2 different bores " for 1992 60 HP ??----Why did the timer base have to stay on the motor ?

Sounds weird but true my first order the pistons ".020 over" were way too small Sierra part number 18 4114.
Parts that fit were part number 18-4064
Check parts lists carefully before ordering !

NOPE------The 1992---( 56 cubic inch ) motor only has one standard bore size 3 - 3/16" -------What you did was order pistons for the older 49.9 cubic inch motor that had a standard bore of 3.000" -----All because the catologue of the SIERRA people was not clear on this difference.

OK but to be clear one needs to know you can't trust Sierra catalog

Wiseco catalogue is much less confusing.

Finally finished & started! Wiring was a ***** as colour codes did not match wiring diagrams. First ties -no spark Thought I was Screwed but lucked in . Turned out that a pin inside a rubber connector had slipped backwards & wire would not connect even though connectors looked good . Then my starting attempts had the primer in manual position . Once this was reset away she went! Now trying to find idle timing setting ? I know latest full throttle is to be 17 BTDC (down from original 19) Should be on the water tomorrow! Thanks for all the help along the way
