My alarm went off all of a sudden today. The alarm will not stop and its ear splitting.

After a lot of poking around and studying my SELOC manual I think the manual is wrong. It claims the temp sensor should be closed until it overheats and then goes open. I studied the wiring and tested the sensor. It definitely is open until 185F when it closes. The wiring setup supports this theory as well.

I drained all my oil from the on-engine tank to see if the level sensor is working and it is. No matter what I do the alarm will not shut up.

Anyone familiar with these? I think the module is toast. If I'm right, the key on test only checks that the module itself is okay by chirping the alarm. The overheat sensor isn't even a part of the module wiring. How do I check this thing?

Is the alarm continuous (beeeeeeeeeep) or intermittent (beep beep beep)? Continuous is the overheat alarm and intermittent is the oil/water sensing alarm.

The alarm is continuous but the temp sensor tests out fine (I boiled it in water). The module isn't actually a part of the overheat circuit other than the fact it attaches to a common terminal at one point.

Does the alarm sound as soon as you start the engine? If so, it may be a bad warning module. The warning module is part of the overheat circuit in the sense that it triggers the alarm.

BJM..there is one of 3 things wrong... somewhere the tan wire in the engine/umbilical harness/control is grounding, causing the alarm to sound all the time the key is on...
the module is bad....
the float magnet combo in the bottom of the oil tank has failed [common] and the module thinks the oil tank is empty, hence screaming at you till you fill it...
Pull the small reed swicth out of the bottom of the oil tank [it is sealed from the oil] and turn the key back on...if it shut up, you need a new oil tank....

Re: 1992 Mariner 115hp Warning Module Failed

I was scared to remove the oil switch for fear of a flood of oil. I did however siphon the oil out while I had a meter on the leads. The switch closed just as the oil got near the bottom and opened again as I filled it again.

Since I have tested both sensors and the alarm goes off when I unplug the power lead (purple) to the module, I am assuming the module is bad.

I ordered one today for $85 Canadian. I hope I am right.

Thanks for the suggestions.
