I have the above and it has been acting like it is running on a single cylinder instead of 2. It will run just fine, up on plane, for about 10 minutes, then the RPMs will drop, will not get on plane, wake is not the same pattern as the high speed, and bogs down. The eingine does not sound like it has as much RPM when it does this. If I turn the motor off for about 10 minutes and restart, sometimes it will run great, back on plane, but then repeat the process after about 1-2 minutes, other times it will not. I'm fairly certain this is an ignition problem but I'm looking for other opinions. Here is what I have done:
1. Fresh fuel, new tank, new line with primer bulb. I have tried squeezing the bulb when it does this and it has no affect. Vent on the tank is open as well so I am not starving the engine of fuel.
2. Just had the carb cleaned 2 weeks ago.
3. Completely rebuilt carb and fuel pump in October.
4. Compression test results are cylinder 1 approx 110psi, cylinder 2 approx 105psi.
5. Spark test - both cylinders showed spark but 1 seemed a bit weaker than the other. Hard to tell in the daylight and trying to pull the manual starter.
Thinking about replacing both of the ignition coils and plug wires. Plugs are properly gapped and there is no oily residue on either, just a dull gray color on both, plenty of electrode remaining.
I did pull the plug wires out of each coil and each had some hardend dielectric grease on it. Best I can tell, everything was factory, cleaned it up as that grease can degrade over time. Reinstalled and still had the same spark results. I did notice a somewhat loose connection on the plug end of a wire. Snugged it up, retested, did not notice any spark difference.
Am I going down the right path with replacing the coils and wires? Any other suggestions?
