Have a 1992 Mercury 200HP XRi motor just blown up. Ordered new power head and getting ready to switch it all over. Although still chasing what caused powerhead failure to start with. Number 4 piston seems to have a hole in the top of it and the connecting rod is pulled out of piston and hanging out of the case still connected to crank. Have not separated case halfs or pulled head of yet to get the best look but i was just curious on what some of the possible causes of failiure could be!

Overheating, timing too advance, fuel octane too low..... Did the engine have an 'idle stabilizer'? They are notorious for advancing the timing and blowing up engines.
